McLane 1801 Location

Diagram Reference: #144.
The 1801 right roller bracket is positioned on the very front of the mower, low and to the right side (discharge side) as you face the machine.

Mechanical Linkage: A tie rod (Ref #113, MPN #1113/4113) slots through the grooved roller (Ref #134, MPN #1170/4170) and secures into this bracket (#144) on the right side, with the left-hand bracket (Ref #143, MPN #1802) mirroring it on the opposite end[cite: 131, 139].

When You Need This Part

Evaluate the #1801 bracket immediately if your mower is dragging in front, the roller fails to spin freely, or you notice "rutting" in your turf. Because this bracket (and the #1802) is the exclusive structural linkage between the front roller and the deck, any distortion here will compromise your cutting geometry. If the bracket is bent or the internal bearing is seized, the roller will drag rather than rotate, risking damage to both the machine and your lawn.

Tips and Tricks

Pro-Tip: Check the tie rod straightness while the roller is disassembled. If you are replacing either side bracket, we strongly recommend replacing both the 1801 and 1802 simultaneously. These components share the same duty cycles; if one bearing has failed, the other is likely at end-of-life. Performing a complete front-end overhaul now prevents a secondary tear-down later.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I replace just the bearing?

While the #1108 bearing is available as a standalone item, we recommend the complete #1801 assembly. The integrated bracket ensures a factory-spec seat for the bearing and significantly reduces labor time by eliminating the need for a press during installation.

Is this interchangeable with 1801-GR?

Yes. Part #1801 is the modern authorized replacement for part #1801-GR. It provides an exact fit for all legacy machines referencing the old number in their manuals.

Does 1801 include a bearing?

Yes, the #1801 assembly comes pre-installed with the #1108 bearing[cite: 131, 139].
